After an election campaign where he walked the district and talked to voters about his record of accomplishment for the district several local issues, including protecting the rights of sewer ratepayers and property owners on Johnson’s Pond, as well as state-wide issues such as promoting small businesses and fighting crime, Rhode Island State Senator Leonidas Raptakis won re-election with a 62-38% majority. Raptakis was confirmed as the winner shortly after the polls closed on Tuesday night.

Raptakis will be sworn in next January to his sixteenth term in the Rhode Island Senate (1996-2010 and 2012 to present). He previously served two terms in the State House of Representatives (1992-1996).

“Once again, I’m grateful to the voters for giving me the chance to be their voice in the State House”, said Raptakis. “My commitment to public service is born from the opportunities I’ve had as a small business owner, to raise my own family here and be grateful for everything this community has give us. My way of giving back is to fight for my constituents and to push tirelessly for honest, effective and transparent government”.

Raptakis added, “I also look forward to continuing to be a strong voice on issues of concern to the Greek-American community, working with my legislative colleagues to strengthen the relationship between Greece and the United States, while continuing to work closely with Rhode Island’s Congressional delegation on issues ranging from blocking the sale of F-35s to Turkey to ensuring the United States continues to be a reliable partner for NATO and our European allies. We are fortunate to have a strong network of Hellenic-America elected officials across the county and I will continue to work with them to make sure we are being heard in Washington, DC and in state capitals across the country”.

State Senator Leonidas Raptakis currently serves as President of the World Hellenic Inter-Parliamentary Association (WHIA), an international organization comprising more than 90 legislators of Hellenic descent from around the world. He is scheduled to complete his third term as President in July 2027.
