Saint Nicholas Greek Afternoon School in West Babylon, NY hosted a beautiful OXI day presentation on Friday, October 24. Τhe annual celebration brought the community together to honor Greece’s “NO” to the Axis powers during World War II.

The event featured a heartfelt presentation by the school’s students, who performed patriotic songs and recited poems, passionately bringing to life the story of Greece’s defiance on October 28, 1940.

School Principal Evgenia Kotroni spoke about the importance of passing down Greek history and traditions to the next generation. “These presentations are more than just a performance,’’ she stated. “Τhey connect our students to their Hellenic roots and instill a sense of pride in their heritage, ensuring this important history is never forgotten”.

Father Elias Pappas, parish proistamenos, expressed his pride in the school’s achievements, and commended the students for their exceptional efforts in honoring the national holiday. He also acknowledged the parents for their love and support.

The event concluded with a round of enthusiastic applause from parents and guests, many of whom captured the moments with photos and videos of the proud performers. For the attendees, the OXI Day celebration served as a poignant and inspiring reminder of the enduring legacy of Greek national pride and a vital part of the community’s cultural calendar.
