UN Assistant Secretary-General Khaled Khiari referred to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, focusing on the Israeli hostages still being held by Hamas, speaking to the UN Security Council that met on the issue.
In his statement the Permanent Representative of Greece Ambassador Evangelos Sekeris reiterated Greece’s call for all hostages to be released immediately and unconditionally and expressed concern with the resumption of hostilities in Gaza and the high toll on civilians, and highlighted that the ceasefire agreement must hold. He also called both parties to return to the negotiations table and proceed to the next phases in good faith and repeated Greece’s position on the two-state solution, while recognising Israel’s right to exist in peace and security and welcomed regional efforts like the Arab plan for the reconstruction of Gaza.
