On Saturday, October 31, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., the St. Paraskevi Greek School in Greenlawn, NY proudly hosted its annual OXI Day celebration in the school gym. The room was filled with families and guests who gathered to honor this important day in Greek history. The gym was beautifully decorated by the dedicated ladies of the Greek School PTO, creating a festive and meaningful atmosphere.
The program began with the ceremonial entrance of the Greek and American flags, followed by an opening prayer offered by Father John Vlahos. The entire school community then stood together to sing the Greek and American National Anthems, demonstrating pride in both their Greek heritage and American identity.

Following the anthems, Greek School Principal Sophia Panagos welcomed the audience with opening remarks. A select group of sixth-grade students shared historical information about October 28, 1940, explaining the significance of OXI Day and its lasting importance to the Greek people.
The musical and dance performances were a highlight of the celebration. Under the direction of Greek Music Teacher Kyria Eleni Constantinides, students from Nursery and Pre-K through Grade 6 presented songs celebrating Greek history and culture. Traditional Greek dances were taught and directed by Greek Dance Teacher Kyria Matina Panagos.

The program featured performances by Nursery and Pre-K, Kindergarten and Grade 1, Grade 2, Grades 3 and 4, and Grades 5 and 6. Each group brought enthusiasm, pride, and energy to the stage, making the celebration a memorable experience for everyone in attendance.
The program concluded with closing remarks from PTO President Panagiota Stathakos and Greek School Principal Sophia Panagos. Following the presentation, the Greek School PTO ladies generously offered light refreshments for families and guests.

Special thanks were expressed to Greek Music Teacher, Kyria Eleni Constantinides; Greek Dance Teacher, Kyria Matina Panagos; and Grade 6 Teacher, Kyria Athanasia Biska, for their dedication, guidance, and support in preparing our students.
