Tannousis’ Statement Ahead of Gov. Hochul’s Oversight Committee Appearance

ALBANY, NY –

Assemblyman Michael Tannousis (R,C-Staten Island/Brooklyn) hosted a press conference today alongside members of the Assembly Republican Conference in response to the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Government Reform’s request for accountability from Gov. Kathy Hochul regarding New York state’s sanctuary policies, their impact on public safety and obstruction of federal immigration enforcement.

The elected officials unveiled their letter to Rep. James Comer (R-Kentucky), chair of the Oversight Committee, in which the lawmakers will release a series of questions the committee must ask Hochul when she testifies. The questions will ensure the committee is fully aware of the failed leadership decisions Hochul has made regarding her sanctuary policies.

“In case anyone in Washington needs the facts set straight, you heard it here today,” said Tannousis. “Gov. Hochul’s failures in public safety have opened the floodgates to unprecedented spending of taxpayer dollars while illegal migrants received five-star treatment, free of cost. The insanity that has plagued New York must come to an end.

“The truth behind the sanctuary cities is clear in our state’s mass exodus. Families are fed up with criminals and illegal migrants being prioritized above them. The truth lies with the people who live here and pay their taxes yet struggle to put food on the table. It lies with the small businesses being forced to close their doors and move to lower-taxed states to survive. This is the harsh reality of our once-thriving state when you allow reckless policies that shift the burden onto hard-working families”.
