The Sounds of Lent Concert by the Archdiocesan Cathedral Choir, March 23

NEW YORK, NY –

The Archdiocesan Cathedral Choir, Youth Choir and Orchestra, under the direction of Maestro Costas Tsourakis present “The Sounds of Lent” Concert, on Saturday, March 23rd, 2024 at 7:30 pm and invite everyone to experience the transcendent beauty of sacred music this Lenten season under the Dome of the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in NYC.

“This year, we are thrilled to showcase an exquisite selection of hymns and compositions that resonate with the depth and beauty of the Lenten season, performed with passion by our esteemed Cathedral Choir and vibrant Youth Choir, accompanied by the accomplished Cathedral Orchestra”, says Maestro Costas Tsourakis. 

“Our program features a carefully curated selection of works that speak to the soul, including the ethereal « Ἄξιον ἐστίν» by Dino Anagnost Artist-in-Residence John Baboukis and the contemplative Evening Prayer by Benedict Sheehan. Experience the solemnity of Mozart’s Domine Jesu, the reflective depth of Anagnost’s Lamentations, and the serene beauty of Fauré’s Libera Me.

We will also present the «Αινείτε» by Frank Desby, «Σήμερον κρεμάται» by Anna Gallos, and the powerful «Τη Υπερμάχῳ» from the symphony Levendia by Manolis Kalomiris, among others. Each piece has been selected not only for its musical brilliance but for its ability to convey the profound spiritual essence of Lent», he adds.
