ATHENS –
The third round of voting for the election of the new President of the Hellenic Republic on Thursday [2/6] again failed to yield the required majority of 180 votes for any of the candidates nominated. The majority required in the previous three rounds was 200, 200 and 180 votes, respectively.
During the third roll-call vote, ruling New Democracy’s candidate and former Parliament President Constantine Tassoulas gained 160 votes, main opposition PASOK-Movement for Change candidate Tassos Giannitsis received 34 votes, the SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance candidate Louka Katseli received 40 votes and Niki party candidate Constantine Kyriakou received 14 votes. There were also 52 MPs who were present but abstained.
