Convened in 325 A.D. by Emperor Constantine, the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea addressed the Arian controversy, affirmed the full divinity of Christ, and produced the Nicene Creed a declaration of faith still central to Orthodox, Catholic, Anglican, and Protestant traditions. The Council also established a unified date for Easter, issued 20 canons, and recognized the authority of major sees, laying foundations for doctrine, conciliar governance, and Church order that remain deeply relevant today.
