AHEPA/Community Activist John Hallas Passed Away

John Hallas, an active member of the Greek Orthodox Kimisis Church Poughkeepsie and The Order of AHEPA – Poughkeepsie Charter #158 community recently passed on December 24th. He was born on the island of Andros, Greece.

The late Ahepa member was active in the hospitality industry from the 1970’s in Poughkeepsie, New York.

He was a family man devoted to his wife, Maria Siolas Hallas and his three children Konstantina, Dimitra and Demetrios. He worked in area diners as a chef, enhancing their business. He was making trips to Andros every summer to visit his relative and friends.

Mr. Hallas was part of the Poughkeepsie AHEPA Chapter that presented a check for $11,000 following the Divine Liturgy to the Kimisis Tis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church on August 8, 2021.

The late Mr. Hallas helped organize the Poughkeepsie Chapter #158 annual holiday dinner meeting at the Eveready Diner in Hyde Park on January 14, 2021, for family and guests. He played an active role in the chapter philanthropic activities such as joint meetings with neighboring chapters, a luncheon to support local college students, the FDR event, the Greek Parade, Graduation, Scholarships, and the District Convention.

John Hallas made kind gestures to many, creating an impact on their lives. He will be missed by all.
