AHI Applauds Continued Congressional Opposition to Turkey’s F-16 Request

Washington, DCU.S. Representative Chris Pappas (D-NH) led a bipartisan-backed letter sent to the leadership of the House and Senate’s Armed Services Committees, urging them to retain his bipartisan amendment in the final version of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Pappas’ amendment restricts the sale of F-16 aircraft and modernization kits to Turkey. The House passed Pappas’ amendment with bipartisan support in July.

“We applaud Congressman Pappas’ most recent letter and appreciate his stalwart leadership on restricting the sale of F-16’s to Turkey,” AHI President Nick Larigakis said. “We have supported the Congressman’s efforts from the beginning and we will continue to work with him, and the Congress more broadly, to restrict arms sales to Turkey.”

Larigakis added, “It is absurd for the Administration to even entertain Turkey’s request for F-16s. President Erdogan constantly threatens Greece and Cyprus, and together with his government officials, have displayed an increasingly open and brazen hostility toward the United States.”
