The American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce announced on April 14 the establishment of its branch office in Washington, DC to strengthen its presence in the United States.

The new office, to open on May 22, will actively contribute to the further development of bilateral trade and economic relations between the two countries, AmCham said in a statement, supporting the international expansion of Greek businesses and attracting American companies and investments.

“The establishment of the Washington, DC branch is a strategic decision that has been carefully planned and prepared over time, marking a new era for the bilateral economic and commercial relations,” the Chamber continued, adding that “its aim is to strengthen strategic, commercial, as well as technological and academic partnerships and investments in sectors such as defense, energy, innovation and startup entrepreneurship, promoting the extroversion of Greek businesses and attracting American investments”.

“The establishment of our branch in Washington is the most substantial and strategic expansion of our presence in the US to date. This initiative is not just an institutional expansion”, noted Chamber President, Nikolaos Bakatselos. “It reflects the upgrading of the role we wish to play in the new era of extroversion for the Greek economy; an era in which Greece is steadily gaining the trust of the international business community, emerging as a reliable investment destination and strengthening its presence in international markets”, he added.

Journalist Katerina Sokou, a longtime correspondent and researcher in Washington, DC, will serve as the branch’s executive director.  “Today, more than ever, there is an opportunity, but also a need, to capitalize on the excellent bilateral relations in order to achieve a dual target: supporting the extroversion of Greek businesses and attracting investment in Greece”, said Sokou.

Established in 1932, AmCham is one of the largest, most active and most dynamic American Chambers in Europe.
