WASHINGTON (ANA-MPA/P. Kasfikis) –

Greek Minister of National Defence Nikos Dendias held a series of critical contacts with leading figures from the US House of Representatives and the Senate during his stay in Washington.

The round of meetings between the Greek minister and US legislators began on the morning of February 3.

In recent years, the Greek side has placed particular emphasis on cultivating relations with members of both houses of Congress, due to its role in shaping US foreign policy and, in particular, the supervisory role it exercises in matters of defence diplomacy.

In this context, Dendias met with the chairman of the House of Representatives Defence Committee, Mike Rogers, on the prospects for deepening Greek-American defence relations.

At the same time, he had a meeting with the chairman of the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee, while the discussion with the head of the Republican majority in the Senate, John Thune, was of particular importance.

Dendias’ programme also included a meeting with members of the board of directors of the American Jewish organisation AIPAC, with the discussion focusing on security challenges in the wider Eastern Mediterranean region.

During the day, the minister also participated in a panel organised by the think tank The Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD), together with its executive director Jonathan Sanger. The discussion focused on international and regional developments, with an emphasis on defence and security issues.

Dendias’ visit to Washington concluded with a meeting at the US Pentagon with US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and Undersecretary of War for Policy Elbridge Colby.
