HFS Presents Award-Winning ARCADIA at MoMI, Feb. 15

ASTORIA, NY –

The Hellenic Film Society (HFS) will present the award-winning film Arcadia on Sunday, February 15 at the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, NY, at 3pm. The film was Greece’s official 2025 Oscar submission for Best International Feature Film. The screening is part of Always in Sunday, HFS’s successful monthly Greek film program at the Museum.

Arcadia was directed by Yorgos Zois and stars Vangelis Mourikis and Angeliki Papoulia, two of Greece’s most acclaimed actors. Variety calls Arcadia “compelling” and says, “Zois is among a promising generation of emerging Greek filmmakers that have stepped out of the long shadow cast by the so-called Weird Wave to nurture their own distinctive, idiosyncratic voices.”

The thriller takes place in a remote coastal resort, where a car accident victim awaits identification. As the film unravels what led to the accident, it enters the realm of the uncanny, slowly revealing mysteries and unfolding a compelling story of loss, acceptance, and moving on. The film, recommended for mature audiences, due to nudity and adult situations, received the 2025 Hellenic Film Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Screenplay.

Arcadia is a true masterpiece, says Maria Miles, Hellenic Film Society president. “It beckons the audience to examine their beliefs about love, loss and grief all while offering stunning visual images.”

The film is in Greek, with English subtitles. For tickets and further information, visit www.hellenicfilmsociety.org. Use discount code SUNDAY20.
The Museum of the Moving Image is located at 37-01 35th Avenue in Astoria, NY.
