STATEN ISLAND, NY – Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11), a member of the Coast Guard-Maritime Subcommittee, announced on January 10 that the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Sector New York will receive $5 million in federal funds from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to make safety, habitability, and quality of life upgrades to 154 legacy housing units at their Fort Wadsworth base.
Rep. Malliotakis voted for the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which passed the House on November 5, 2021, and became law on November 15, 2021.
“I recently visited with leadership from USCG Sector New York and the need for housing upgrades was one of the main issues brought to my attention,” Rep. Malliotakis said. “From handling search and rescue missions, conducting anti-terrorism activities, and ensuring our goods are safely transported into our ports, adequate housing plays a critical role in attracting and retaining the finest Coasties to serve in our city. These housing renovations are long overdue and will help give our Coasties and their families the quality of life they deserve. I’m honored to support them and deliver on my promise to fight for their needs in Congress”.
