LOMBARD, IL—
The Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago announced today a significant expansion of the Metropolis of Chicago Hellenic College Holy Cross (HCHC) Scholarship Fund and its support for seminarians, furthering its commitment to cultivating the next generation of clergy.
The Metropolis of Chicago will now offer tuition support to undergraduate seminarians from the Metropolis of Chicago, thereby offering comparable support historically available to seminarians for graduate studies through Leadership 100. This marks a major step toward ensuring that every seminarian, regardless of degree level, can pursue their calling with reduced financial barriers.
In the future, such tuition aid will be offered to all Metropolis of Chicago students attending seminary, reflecting the Metropolis’ holistic vision of supporting all who strive to grow in faith and service.
“In the Gospel, Jesus tells us ‘Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.’ The heart of our Holy Metropolis rests with our clergy, both current and future. Their tireless devotion as servants of God sustains our parishes, our families, and the most vulnerable in our communities. We are pleased to provide financial support as they train to lead the people of God,” His Eminence Metropolitan Nathanael said.
The Metropolis of Chicago HCHC Scholarship Fund is the latest example of the Metropolis’ ongoing efforts to develop its clergy, a key part of Metropolitan Nathanael’s 5-Year Vision for the Church. Alongside tuition support, the Metropolis continues to strengthen clergy through its clergy leadership program (i.e., Higher Calling), focused on clergy wellness—designed to nurture spiritual, emotional, psychological, and vocational vitality in ordained ministry.
To celebrate and sustain this important work, the Metropolis will host the 3rd Annual Dinner for the Metropolis of Chicago HCHC Scholarship Fund on Thursday, November 13, 2025. For details and to RSVP by the November 7 deadline, please visit https://chicago.goarch.org/hchc/.
