Syracuse City Auditor Alexander Marion joined members of the Greek American community to celebrate Greek Independence Day at Syracuse City Hall on Wednesday, March 25. A proclamation was presented to AHEPA Syracuse Chapter 37 and the Greek flag was raised outside the building while the national anthem was sung.

“As a Greek American I take great pride in sharing my Hellenic pride with our community and there’s no more special way than with our City Hall flag raising and celebration,” said Syracuse City Auditor Alexander Marion. “I am pleased to join our fellow Greek Americans in celebrating the 205th anniversary of Greek Independence Day”.

The proclamation ceremony was held in the Common Council chambers and the Greek flag was raised in front of Syracuse City Hall. A proclamation was read by Mayor Sharon Owens and County Executive Ryan McMahon.

City Auditor Alexander Marion, first elected in 2023, is the only Greek American elected official in Syracuse City government. Auditor Marion is a member of AHEPA Syracuse Chapter 37.
