It was with profound sadness that the historic Greek Orthodox Cathedral of St. Paul family in Hempstead said goodbye on January 6 to a longtime Steward and the only woman to have served as President of both its Parish Council and Saint Anna’s Philoptochos Society, Antonia Speros Kourepinos.
Antonia, age 88, of Garden City passed Saturday, December 30, 2023. During her over 50 -year presence at the Cathedral of Saint Paul she held the positions of Secretary, Financial Secretary, Treasurer, and Vice President on Parish Council Executive Board. She sang in the choir as a soprano for over 30 years and she played the organ.
Antonia was invited by His Eminence Archbishop Iakovos to join the National Philoptochos Society Board where she served for 12 years. She was Chair of the Nassau, Suffolk, Queens Philoptochos Society and she served as President of the Metropolitan Diocese Board.
Antonia and her late husband, Stephen J. Kourepinos, were members of Leadership 100.
She is survived by her daughter, Joanne K. Adams; son-in-law, Kenneth A. Adams; and granddaughter, Sydney A. Adams.
May her memory be eternal!
