Rev. Fr. Nick A. Milas Is Mourned

The Very Reverend Father Nick A. Milas, age 76, of Johnston, RI, died peacefully on June 5, 2023, after a battle with cancer.

 Fr Nick was born in Philadelphia, PA to Andrew and Helen Milas (Costa). He is survived by his wife, Dina Milas (Karivalis); his daughters Dr. Eleni Milas and her husband Claudio DaSilva, and Marika Milas, both of Cranston, RI; a brother, Mathew Milas of Lincoln, RI; and his sisters Betty Tsarouchis of Tarpon Springs, FL and Georgianne Young of Fuquay Varina, NC.

Throughout his life, Fr Nick was dedicated to serving his community. After graduating from Hellenic College with a Bachelor of Arts with Honors, and then from Holy Cross School of Theology with a Master of Divinity with Distinction, Fr Nick served several parishes as a Greek Orthodox priest.

His career began at Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Washington, D.C. Then he moved with his young family to RI and served 6 years at The Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Pawtucket. After that, Fr Nick served the parish of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Danielson, CT for 36 years until his retirement in 2021. While serving as a priest in Danielson, Fr Nick wore many hats and even taught Greek School to the youth of the parish, in order to carry on the language and traditions of the Greek culture.

In 1984, Fr Nick graduated from Rhode Island College with a Master of Education and was a Special Education teacher in Providence Public Schools until 2012. During his decades as a teacher, he also served on the Executive Board of the Providence Teachers’ Union; as In-Service Coordinator for the Providence Teachers’ Union; and as Director of Mentoring for new teachers, where he was able to share his passion for the profession he so loved.

The Divine Liturgy and Funeral Service was held on Saturday June 10, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Danielson, CT.

Burial followed at Westfield Cemetery, Danielson.
